Our in-house Goldsmiths and Craftsman are on-hand to assist with inherited jewellery, whether for restoration and cleaning, redesign, adding to your heirloom if it is re-made, or indeed, dividing a piece between family members to be equally shared and made into new pieces of jewellery.
Continuing to wear inherited jewellery in a new design can be the perfect way to honour a departed loved one and keep their memory close.
Located in Wimbledon Village, we have a team of jewellers who work within our on-site workshop. Working by hand, the talented Goldsmiths are very experienced in sympathetically enhancing inherited jewellery.
When it comes to inherited jewellery, we pride ourselves on the 4 R’s: restoring, redesigning, remodelling and recycling.
Restore Inherited Jewellery
Restoring old jewellery is something that we specialise in at Michael Platt. We have experience working with even the most delicate of pieces and family heirlooms and will treat your cherished item with care.
The process of restoring jewellery can include replacing any worn ring bands, re-polishing diamonds or stones, re-tipping claws and building up setting edges, replacing lost or damaged stones. We can make your family jewellery sparkle again and give it a new lease on life. If feasible, our many years of expertise in the workshop allows us to make the piece almost as good as new.
Redesign Inherited Jewellery
Michael Platt can redesign your inherited jewellery, bringing it into the 21st century, creating something with your own taste and requirements in mind.
This could include adding new and different gemstones, diamonds bands and other features to make your existing piece perfect for you.
Our Goldsmiths and Designers would love the opportunity to sit down with you to chat through your thoughts and ideas. We love to listen to people and hear what they have in mind. Once we understand what you may be thinking of, we ask you to return to view designs based on your requirements. Delivering a finished bespoke piece of jewellery takes approximately 6 to 8-weeks.
Remodelling Inherited Jewellery
When you redesign inherited jewellery, the new piece may give a feeling of comfort, a regular close and very personal reminder of the person you have lost.
The typical process of remodelling inherited jewellery can involve taking the gemstones or diamonds from an old piece and re-using to create a new bespoke piece of jewellery. Brooches can become rings, necklaces or earrings, or a diamond ring become stud earnings. Many transformations are possible.
Recycle Inherited Jewellery
Recycling jewellery allows you to make good use of dated jewellery for modern use. Michael Platt can repurpose dated or unloved jewellery for new, bespoke pieces especially for you.
You will get to work closely with our designers and in-house team and create a brand new piece of jewellery to cherish in memory of loved ones.
